Yoga Courses
Courses are pre-booked. You attend class the same day and time each week (see each course for prices).
| Ashtanga Yoga |
|
Ashtanga yoga is a style of hatha yoga which is energetic and
dynamic. It involves learning a set sequence of asanas (postures),
practiced in a precise order with each asana joined to the next
by breath-linked movement (vinyasa). Whilst it is energetic it
is also a meditation which creates a deeply tranquil mind and
sense of well-being.
Which level is suitable for you?
Ashtanga Beginners Level
Open to absolute beginners;
the less you know about yoga the better!
Ashtanga Level 1
A natural progression when
you have
completed the beginners courses or have some basic knowledge
of ashtanga.
Ashtanga Level 2 is available as an on-going class in the on-going
section below.
|
| Hatha Yoga |
|
Hatha Yoga can improve our health
on all levels and offers an alternative way to live a compassionate
life without harm to ourselves, others or our environment. This
is not a school or style of yoga but one of the five paths of yoga.
It is the most common form of yoga taught in the west and involves
learning postures, breathing techniques and meditation.
Which level
would suit you?
Beginners
An introduction to safe yoga practice using warm-up sequences, postures,
correct breathing and meditation techniques. This class is open to
all interested in learning a yoga practice that can be incorporated
into daily life. It is a great way to increase energy and learn relaxation.
Level 1
For practitioners with some experience of yoga who would like to deepen
their awareness, knowledge and practice. This class will introduce
more postures and pranayama techniques. It will also introduce other
meditation practices and yoga nidra.

Ongoing Yoga Classes
Ongoing Yoga classes may be paid for individually (£9) or in
8-week blocks (£60) or as a monthly pass (£80). Places
are available on all of these classes - just come along and join in!
(Note that drop-in classes cannot be booked online).
| Ashtanga Level 2 (previously called the
Astanga General Class) |
|
| A more challenging and in-depth look
at the primary series. A natural progression from the level 1 course
above. Places
available. |
| Ashtanga Mysore style |
|
This is the way that the Ashtanga style
is taught in Mysore, India. We introduce the sequence to the individual
student gradually, pose by pose. When the student has finally learned
the entire sequence, they practice solo at their own pace. The
teacher will assist by offering verbal instruction and physical
adjustments if the student needs it. This means that the student
is only working as far as they can comfortably go in the sequence
and will not be trying to keep up with the rest of the class.
This is a non competitive way to learn and encourages development
of the practice at the student’s own pace.
